On Thursday, the Gophers football program made it a six-pack of incoming transfers over the last three weeks. The latest commitment is Utah State offensive lineman Karter Shaw.
At 6-4 and 305 pounds, Shaw played under Minnesota’s new coordinator Mike Sanford Jr. with the Aggies in the Mountain West Conference in 2019. In the transfer portal, he also reportedly entertain an offer from Rutgers.
“Extremely excited and blessed for the opportunity at University of Minnesota,” Shaw tweeted. “Ready to get to work! #rowtheboat”
Shaw has three years of eligibility remaining and could provide immediate quality at guard to an already veteran offensive line coming back in 2021; the U also added Arizona tackle commit Saia Mapakaitolo on Thursday, but at 6-5 and a lighter 280 pounds, the former USC commit will need more development.
Shaw played 23 games and was credited with a team-best 39 knockdowns in 13 games in 2019, with eight against Brigham Young. The South Jordan, Utah, native was on all-conference academic team.
Shaw joins new U arrivals in defensive linemen Nyles Pinckley (Clemson) and Val Martin (N.C. State), receiver Dylan Wright (Texas A&M), punter Daniel Sparks (Lousiana Monroe) and kicker Will Mobley (Temple).
