Former Gophers football commit Aaron Witt has picked the University of Iowa, he announced Monday on Twitter.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound defensive lineman from Winona, Minn., pledged to Minnesota on Nov. 12 and backed off his pledge May 15.

Winona High School coach John Cassellius told the Pioneer Press in May that Witt felt like he committed to Minnesota too soon and wanted to find the “best fit” by visiting other schools.

Witt, a three-star recruit, is considered the fifth-best prospect from the state of Minnesota in the 2020 recruiting class, per 247sports.com. He had other scholarship offers from Iowa State, Oregon State, Wyoming and others.

Witt is the second Minnesotan in Iowa’s class for next year, joining Yahya Black of Marshall. Black, a three-star recruit, had an offer from Minnesota, Kansas State and others. He committed to the Hawkeyes on June 14.
